This class can be used to control the comparison of similar words with different endings. The rule set is copied from http://www.phdcc.com/fiscd/rules.htm, although not the whole rule set may have been implemented.

WordStemming

public WordStemming()

Create a new instance of WordStemming. This constructor is best used if you want to manually stem individual words.

WordStemming

public WordStemming(java.util.HashMap<java.lang.String,java.lang.Integer> thisBagOfWords)

Create a new instance of WordStemming. This constructor is best used with the createStemmedBagOfWords method.

Parameters:

thisBagOfWords - the current bag of words structure.

WordStemming

public WordStemming(java.util.ArrayList<java.lang.String> wordsList)

Create a new instance of WordStemming. This constructor is best used with the createStemmedWordsListOnly method

Parameters:

wordsList - a list of words to be converted into a hash structure with a count of 1 for each word.

createStemmedBagOfWords

public java.util.HashMap<java.lang.String,java.lang.Integer> createStemmedBagOfWords()
                                                                              throws java.lang.Exception

Create a new bag of words structure using stemmed words instead. This stems words to try to combine the counts of them into a single word.

Returns:

the new stemmed bag of words structure.

Throws:

java.lang.Exception - any error.

createStemmedWordsListOnly

public java.util.ArrayList<java.lang.String> createStemmedWordsListOnly()
                                                                 throws java.lang.Exception

Create a new list of words using stemmed words instead. This does not try to combine words in the list based on stemming, but instead only returns the stemmed list of words.

Returns:

the new stemmed words list. No word count is included.

Throws:

java.lang.Exception - any error.

stemWord

public java.lang.String stemWord(java.lang.String wordToken)
                          throws java.lang.Exception

Stem the single word token.

Parameters:

wordToken - the word to stem.

Returns:

the new stemmed word, based on the stored set of rules.

Throws:

java.lang.Exception - any error.
